Let your smile change the world, but don't let the world change your smile.

It annoys me when people think Fil-Ams have it so much easier living here in the Philippines. I’ll admit it that I personally do not have to undergo many of the troubling experiences that many of my brothers and sisters have to endure here and as a matter of fact, I stay in respect to them for always finding ways to make it through. I know I am surrounded with such supportive people and great opportunities, but I never in any way try to use that to my advantage and to rank myself superior towards others.

I’m not saying us Fil-Ams are perfect either. We have had our share on making our comments about Filipinos. There just really is a need to bridge a gap of unity in the midst of all these judgments and tokens of hate.

We are all each other’s brothers and sisters. It sucks that we all can forget that sometimes.

Random Thoughts on 10/24

  • I wonder if that cab driver was trying to give us a sap story so he could get more moolah. Old man tryna play us?!
  • I better get my language skills together. Talking straight English anymore ain’t cute
  • I feel like it’s going to be a while until I go home…
  • But DAMN that semester went by fast
  • Can I call the Philippines my home now? I need to culturally assimilate myself more…
  • Want > Need
  • And what do I want…?
  • At least I got pretty good grades
  • I want to cook more. Spark them creative juices
  • And I want to take more advantage of my time. I feel like I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in a while though…
  • Hard work pays off. Let’s keep it up for 5 more semesters

WANT, WANT, WAAAAANT! I think I deserve a new backpack after a semester of good grades :)

Breaking News! :D
SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. announced today that he has signed  AB 199  – School curriculum: social sciences: Filipinos in World War II by Assembly member Fiona Ma (D-San Francisco)
AB 199 expresses the encouragement of the Legislature that instruction in social sciences includes the role of Filipinos in World War II. Specifically, it encourages the instruction to include a component drawn from personal testimony, especially in the form of oral or video histories of Filipinos who were involved in World War II and those men and women who contributed to the war effort on the home front.
AB 199 helps ensure that our children and future generations learn of the contributions and sacrifice of these brave Filipino soldiers before we lose them in history. Filipino community to celebrate the victory with a luncheon  at the Veterans War Memorial & Performing Arts Center on A-DAY, October 20, 2011. AB199 Historical Artifacts, military records and personal writings of Filipino soldiers during WWII to be presented  to the public by members of the Curriculum Development Committee on A-DAY.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” — Steve Jobs
Rest in peace, Mr. Jobs.
